What is a School Improvement Plan

The purpose of our School Improvement Plans (SIP) is to promote continuous improvement in student achievement and overall school performance. The plans are required by state law and serve as a strategic roadmap that outlines the school’s goals, strategies, and actions to improve educational outcomes. Here are the key purposes:

  • Improve Student Achievement: SIPs identify areas where students are underperforming and outline specific interventions and strategies to enhance student learning and success.

  • Data-Driven Decisions: Schools use data (test scores, attendance, discipline, etc.) to assess current performance and set measurable goals to address weaknesses and capitalize on strengths.

  • Align with District and State Goals: The SIP aligns the school’s objectives with district priorities and state education goals, ensuring consistency across the system.

  • Focus on Equity: These plans often address gaps in achievement between different groups of students, aiming to reduce disparities and improve access to quality education for all students.

  • Collaborative Planning: School Improvement Plans are developed by a team of stakeholders, including administrators, teachers, parents, and sometimes students, ensuring a shared vision and buy-in from the entire school community.

  • Accountability: The plans serve as a tool for schools to monitor their progress over time and hold themselves accountable for meeting the goals set in the SIP.

If you click here, you will see a list of School Improvement Plans for our district that will be voted on by the Board of Education at their September evening meeting.  If you have questions regarding the plans, please reach out to the principal of the school.
