Alamance-Burlington School System is pleased to announce that Debra Sparks, Assistant Principal at Western Alamance Middle School, has been named the District's Assistant Principal of the Year for 2023.
Superintendent Dr. Dain Butler and Western Alamance Middle School Principal Gabby Hall presented Ms. Sparks with the Golden Apple Award Thursday morning at the school.
Ms. Sparks has dedicated 19 years of service to ABSS. She began her career as a teacher at E.M. Holt Elementary and B. Everett Jordan Elementary before transitioning into school administration. She served as an assistant principal at Ray Street Academy for 7 years prior to joining the team at Western Alamance Middle.
“Through 19 years of dedication to Alamance Burlington Schools, I've learned that the true joy in education lies in the meaningful interactions with students and their families. It's not just a career; it's a calling, and I'm grateful for every moment," said Sparks.
Dr. Butler congratulated Ms. Sparks, saying, "Debra epitomizes the type of passionate, student-focused leader we want working in ABSS. We are thrilled to recognize her outstanding work as an Assistant Principal. She is deserving of this honor."
