For the ninth year, students at Walter Williams High School will provide free tax preparation services to qualifying community members through the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program.
This year, 20 Accounting students at Williams High School have completed training to become IRS-certified tax preparers. They will offer tax preparation assistance by appointment only on Tuesdays from 4:00-6:00 pm in Room 227, from February 27 through March 26.
Taxpayers with income below $66,000 in 2023 may be eligible for free preparation services.
Appointments can be scheduled by calling 336-570-6161 or visiting: http://tinyurl.com/whsvita2024
Visitors should bring a photo ID, Social Security cards for all family members, W-2s from all jobs worked, and any other tax documents.

"This is a great opportunity for our students to use the skills they’ve learned in class to give back to the community,” said Mary Margaret Harris, VITA Coordinator. “Last year our student preparers completed over 75 returns resulting in over $65,000 in refunds for local taxpayers."
The VITA program is sponsored by the IRS. Williams High School accounting students receive class credit for participation.
