The Alamance-Burlington School System Board of Education has announced the appointment of Mr. Clarence Garrett, Jr. as the new principal of Woodlawn Middle School. The decision was made during the board meeting on July 8th.
Mr. Garrett, an Alamance County native, brings 19 years of educational experience to his new role. His career in ABSS began in 2005 as a Technology teacher at Graham Middle School, marking a full-circle moment in his professional journey.
"I'm looking forward to bringing my leadership experience and dedication to educational excellence to Woodlawn Middle School," Mr. Garrett stated. "As a product of ABSS, I am committed to fostering a positive and productive school environment."
Throughout his career, Mr. Garrett has held various positions, including Exceptional Children teacher, 7th-grade math teacher, and athletic director at Broadview Middle School. He also taught STEM at Swann Middle School in Guilford County, where he began his administrative internship and held several leadership roles.
Mr. Garrett's administrative experience includes four years as an assistant principal in Caswell County Schools and Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools. Most recently, he served as Principal of N.L. Dillard Middle School for two years, where he led the school to exceed expected growth. His efforts were recognized when he was named Caswell County Schools' 2023-2024 Principal of the Year.
Academically, Mr. Garrett holds a Bachelor of Arts from the University of North Carolina at Pembroke and a Master of Arts in Executive Leadership Studies from Gardner-Webb University.
As Woodlawn Middle School prepares for the upcoming academic year, the arrival of Mr. Garrett marks a new chapter in the school's leadership, promising a blend of local insight and proven educational expertise.
